Looking towards Asian economies

Romania must look with more interest towards the Asian economies. Their technological and innovative potential can be a very good ingredient in Romania's current economic and social modernization process. I had the pleasure of being part of the Romanian President's delegation in the official visits to Japan and Singapore.

Romania must look with more interest towards the Asian economies. Their technological and innovative potential can be a very good ingredient in Romania's current economic and social modernization process. I had the pleasure of being part of the Romanian President's delegation in the official visits to Japan and the Republic of Singapore.

After more than a century of diplomatic relations between Romania and Japan, new opportunities for economic cooperation and trade are opening now, based also on the new launched Strategic Partnership. I was glad to note, during the discussions of President Iohannis with the Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, an increased interest for projects related to green energy, including nuclear, complex infrastructure and connectivity, research and innovation. We hope that the expertise and experience of Japanese companies will bring an additional added value in relation to Romania.

In Singapore, President Iohannis' high-level discussions with the President of the Republic of Singapore, Halimah Yacob, and with the Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong, focused on mutual interests in projects related to information society and cybersecurity, climate action and green energy transition. Romania has already demonstrated its potential to be active and present in this area and improving the connection between Europe and Asia through the port of Constanța and the Danube will certainly be a national advantage.

I was also proud of both Japan and Singapore`s appreciation for our country's sustained actions and efforts in support of Ukraine, both in terms of the refugee situation and facilitating the grain transit.
